Write to us

To help us help you, mention your device, iOS version, the app version (shown in the App Store), and the file type you were sharing. Please don't attach a photo that contains personal details — describe it instead.

Getting started

Privacy Buddy isn't in my share sheet

Open Privacy Buddy once after installing so iOS registers its share extension. Then:

  • In Photos, select a photo and tap Share.
  • Scroll the row of app icons to the end and tap More.
  • Find Privacy Buddy, tap Edit, and add it to Favorites so it stays near the front.

If it still doesn't appear, restart your device — iOS occasionally needs a nudge to pick up new share extensions.

Where's the button to pick photos inside the app?

There isn't one, by design. Privacy Buddy works from the share sheet so you never have to import anything. The app itself is where you set the six switches that decide what gets removed.

Using Privacy Buddy

How do I check that a photo was cleaned?

Save the cleaned copy to Photos, open it, and swipe up (or tap the ⓘ button). With Location on, the map is gone; with Camera details and Device info on, the camera and lens lines are gone too. Compare with the original, which is left untouched.

I turned a switch off, but my video still lost that detail

That's expected. For video and audio, Apple's frameworks strip identifying metadata as a single unit rather than category by category, so the switches apply to photos only. Videos always come out with their identifying metadata removed.

Will it change or delete my original photo?

No. Privacy Buddy makes a clean copy, hands it to the share sheet, then deletes its own working copy. Your library is never modified.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Everything happens on your device, so it works in airplane mode. Nothing is uploaded — see the privacy policy.

Will my video lose quality?

Video is cleaned without re-encoding wherever possible, so quality and file size are preserved.

What it removes

What metadata does it remove?

EXIF, TIFF, GPS, IPTC, PNG text and camera maker-note metadata, grouped into six switches: Location, Camera details, Device info, Date & time taken, Software info, and Author & comments.

Does it blur faces or hide what's in the picture?

No. Privacy Buddy doesn't alter the image itself — faces, screens, street signs and anything else visible in the frame stay exactly as they are. It's a metadata tool, not a redaction tool. Use the Markup tool in Photos to cover anything visible before sharing.

Which file types are supported?

Photos: JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, GIF and RAW. Video and audio: MP4, MOV and other common formats.
